Heat Treats, Tempering, Cryo and Therma-Cycle™ ProcessingAngel Sword offers heat treating, tempering and cryogenic processing through Metal Science Services. Heat treating and tempering are done to match customer hardness/toughness requirements. Items with no specific instructions will be given the best combination of the two qualities. Angel Sword will not be responsible for warpage due to unequal grinding or machining of the item. Angel Sword reserves the right to refuse any item that might have serious warpage or adverse reaction to treatment. All air hardening metals, or pieces machined to final tolerances before heat treatment (not recommended) will be wrapped in stainless steel foil which eliminates most of the scale usually encountered in heat treating these items. The small amount of scale or discoloration produced during the heat treating process is usually easily buffed off, but occasionally more scale is encountered and heavier buffing is required. Stock removal is almost never required. Cryogenic processing uses extreme cold (-300° F) to enhance steel performance by transforming it's molecular structure. Cryogenic processing makes steel tougher and more durable, enhances blade finish, and reduces edge chipping. Once treated, blades will keep their edge 2-3 times longer and re-sharpening requires the removal of less material, so blades last longer. Therma-Cycle™ processing is a patent-pending, multiwave treatment that uses both heat and extreme cold to optimize steel performance.
